BAPHM (Bajaj Allianz Pune Half Marathon) is a mobile app for athletes and anyone who enjoys running marathons. The private company running the event approached Zero to One Lab to build it.
The problem
Before the race, the app needed to show event details such as the venue, a route map, mentors and pacers. Once the marathon was over, it needed to show results and the list of winners.
Process
- Discover: we defined what the app had to do before and after the event.
- Define: our team studied a range of case studies and competing apps. The research showed the users’ biggest pain points: unclear information and results only appearing after the event.
- Wireframes: from the research, we added some extra features alongside the core functions and designed high-fidelity wireframes.
- Design: we turned the wireframes into the final visual design.
Key features
- Event home: find my registration, expo, route map, and pacers and mentors.
- Post-race home: my result and photos, winners, and feedback.
- My result: bib number, finish time, pace, overall and age-group rank, and a pace chart.
- Winners dashboard: total finishers by gender and age group, and winners lists for the 21K, 10K and 5K runs.
Visual design
The app shows a lot of text, especially numbers, so it had to be easy on the eye. We used Roboto because its generous line spacing keeps it readable even at small sizes. We used italics sparingly, as a nod to the runners’ speed. The ‘Total finishers’ overview by age group and gender makes the results quicker to understand.
